Thai Marriage Visa
If you are married to a Thai citizen then you can apply for a Thai Marriage Visa. This is a 3 month visa but very useful.
When you apply for a Thai Marriage Visa you need to obtain the following documents for application as it needs to be handed in when you apply for the visa at the Thai Embassy! Note that you don’t need a tourist visa in Thailand if you have a Thai spouse as the marriage visa has more options.
- Copy of your passport
- Copy of your marriage certificate
- Copy of Thai wifes ID Card
- Copy of your wifes ‘house papers’
These documents will get you the marriage visa which is also called the Thai “O” Visa. This visa is valid for 3 months only. You can apply for a work permit in Thailand with the marriage visa as it is as good as the business visa for work permit applications. The marriage visa in Thailand can also be extended to a 1 year visa in Thailand if you meet the requirements for the visa. It takes about a month and most use a lawyer in Thailand to do it for them as it does become complex. Basically you need the following:
- Copy of your passport
- Copy of your wifes ID Card
- Copy of your wifes ‘house papers’
- Copy of your marriage certificate
- Copy of your bank acocunt showing 400,000 Baht or an income
- Copy of your lease agreement in Thailand for your condo/house
- Copy of a map showing where you house is located
- Copy of photos showing you and your wife together
Those are the basic requirements for the visa in Thailand. Speak to a lawyer about it as the rules like everything else in Thailand is always in a state of flux. Immigration rules normally change every few months hence the reason why so many use lawyers to keep up to date.
